$10 Million James Squire Golden Eagle Flies High for Charities
Australia’s best four-year-old horses take on four international visitors in the nation’s second richest race this Saturday – the $10 million James Squire Golden Eagle at Rosehill Gardens.
Sydney’s innovative race watched in 65 countries around the world will also see a total of $1 million prizemoney donated to charities linked to each of the 20 horses in the field.
10 per cent of any prizemoney earned is donated – with the winning horse’s percentage a total of $525,000 to a charity.

Japanese filly Ascoli Piceno trained by Yoichi Kuroiwa and world-renowned jockey Joao Moreira is a $6 TAB chance as is the unbeaten French galloper Lazzat, trained by Jerome Reynier for international jockey Antonio Orani.
Champion Sydney trainer Chris Waller’s Joliestar with Kerrin McEvoy aboard is a $5 TAB favourite on her home track as the locals try to repel the visitors.
Top UK trainer William Haggas has Lake Forest ($26 TAB) with Cieren Fallon to ride while Japan is also represented by Corazon Beat ($51 TAB) for trainer Shizuya Kato and jockey Tommy Berry.
Australian Turf Club Head of Racing and Wagering Nevesh Ramdhani said the quality of the international runners along with the best of Australia had made this year’s field the strongest yet.
“With a capacity field of 20 runners the James Squire Golden Eagle has become one of the most watched and most wagered races all year,’’ Mr Ramdhani said.
“The eyes of the racing world will be on Rosehill Gardens to see if Japan can take out back to back James Squire Golden Eagles in just the sixth running.
“We are also delighted to see all of the major stables in Australia in large numbers targeting this race as their “Grand Final’ in Spring.’’
Saturday’s 10-race card includes a star line-up of sprinters in the $3 million Russell Balding Stakes, headed in markets by TAB Everest champion Bella Nipotina ($2.80-2.60 TAB) for Ciaron Maher and Craig Williams.
Sunshine in Paris – one of four other runners backing up from the TAB Everest – is at $5 TAB for trainers Annabel Neasham and Rob Archibald and rider Tommy Berry.
The Group 3 $750,000 Rosehill Gold Cup adds further features to Saturday with Hinged for Chris Waller and Joao Moreira an opening $4.60 TAB favourite ahead of Relentless Voyager for the Maher and Williams combination well backed early from $7.50-$6 TAB

Golden Eagle Day will also offer a food festival atmosphere with a range of outlets spread across the course including a food stall precinct at the front ground area of the Grand Pavilion.
Public transport including ferry services from Circular Quay to Rydalmere and Parramatta wharves and dedicated buses direct to the course are all included in general admission tickets as well as for ATC Members.
