$87 Million Sydney Everest Carnival Launches at Royal Randwick
Sydney’s world-renowned $87 million spring racing spectacular officially launches on Saturday at Royal Randwick as the countdown continues to the world’s richest race on turf.
The Sydney Everest Carnival from 21 September to 9 November will include 29 Group and Listed features across nine racedays at Royal Randwick and Rosehill Gardens.
Saturday at Royal Randwick sees the running of the $1 million 7 + Sport Stakes along with the Group 2 $1 million Yarraman Park Shorts, a key pathway to the ultimate spring prize, the $20 million TAB Everest on 19 October.
The 10-race card which has attracted 137 entries also includes the third leg of the Darley Princess Series, the Group 2 $300,000 Darley Tea Rose Stakes, and the Group 3 $250,000 Bill Ritchie Handicap, a vital pathway to the $1 million TAB Epsom on 5 October.
Australian Turf Club Head of Racing and Wagering Nevesh Ramdhani said Sydney would showcase some of the world’s strongest racing over the coming months.
“Saturday’s launch of the Sydney Everest Carnival formally starts what has already been an exciting few weeks this Spring,’’ Mr Ramdhani said.
“Nothing beats the atmosphere of being trackside on these big carnival days especially in Sydney’s stunning early Spring weather.
“Amongst many highlights on Saturday will be the clash of the rising star filly Autumn Glow taking on the winners of the first two legs of the Darley Princess series in Ameena and Manaal in the Darley Tea Rose Stakes.
“The Yarraman Park Shorts features some exceptional sprinters and could establish another slot or two for the TAB Everest.’’
