A Sold-Out TAB Everest Day Brings 49,117 Racing Fans to Royal Randwick
TAB Everest Day saw a huge sold-out crowd of 49,117 gather at Royal Randwick for the world’s richest race on turf. The pinnacle event of the Sydney Everest Carnival was sold out – for the first time in its eight-year history – bringing a young, fun-loving crowd to enjoy world-class racing and so much more for an incredible day out in Sydney.
Headlining this huge day of racing was the Group 1 $20 million TAB Everest, the worlds’ richest race on turf, which was won by Bella Nipotina for slot holder, TAB. It gave trainer Ciaron Maher his first ever win in the race and top jockey Craig Williams his second.
The other Group 1 race on the day was the $5 million King Charles III Stakes which was won in brilliant fashion by Ceolwulf. It was a spectacular ride by Chad Schofield for Joe Pride as he reeled in frontrunner, Pride Of Jenni.
TAB Everest Day saw a performance by ARIA-nominated artist Ricki-Lee who performed the Australian National Anthem before the running of the TAB Everest. Continuing the performances on the day was international DJ Joel Corry, headlining the ‘After The Last’ concert series in the Theatre of the Horse with a one-hour set.
The time-honoured tradition of singing Sweet Caroline was sung karaoke-style by the sold-out crowd right before the running of the TAB Everest.
Elsewhere on the day, the Peacock Lounge at the Winx Stand, included in all General Admission ticket purchases, opened for the third of only five dates this Sydney Everest Carnival. This new destination enhances the raceday experience with premium food selections inspired by Sydney’s cult Yum Cha scene and a feature James Squire Bar serving beer and bubbles all day long. Renowned DJ Caleb Jackson was playing in the Peacock Lounge throughout the day.
The 2024 Sydney Everest Carnival spans nine weeks from 21 September to 9 November, covering an impressive 38 Group and listed races across Royal Randwick and Rosehill Gardens.
Rosehill Gardens will soon have their time to shine with the running of the $10 million Golden Eagle on Golden Eagle Day (2 November).
