Golden Pathway Opens Up in James Squire Run To The Rose

11 September, 2024

Star three-year-olds clash in the Group 2 $300,000 James Squire Run To The Rose and TAB Everest hopefuls will step out at Rosehill Gardens on Saturday as the Sydney Spring continues to build momentum.

One week before the official start of the $87 million Sydney Everest Carnival, a total of 139 entries are set for Saturday’s ten-race card.

This includes three other Group races – the Group 2 $300,000 Irresistible Pools Sheraco Stakes, Group 2 $300,000 Toyota Forklifts Theo Marks Stakes and Group 3 $250,000 Precise Air Ming Dynasty Quality.

Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott’s boom three-year-old Storm Boy opens a $2.30-$2.40 TAB favourite in the James Squire Run To The Rose.

Amongst a cavalcade of star gallopers on Saturday, The Star Doncaster champion Celestial Legend ($4.40-$4) for Les Bridge and Kerrin McEvoy (Toyota Forklifts Theo Marks) and a potential new TAB Everest favourite in Joliestar (Chris Waller and Kerrin McEvoy) in Irresistible Pools Sheraco Stakes at $1.90-$1.80 TAB.

Australian Turf Club Head of Racing and Wagering Nevesh Ramdhani said: “The James Squire Run To The Rose each year provides amongst the best early Spring three-year-olds and is a pivotal pathway to Group 1 and feature races deeper into Spring.

“The depth and quality of the Group races this Saturday provides a strong lead into the start next week of the ten-week Sydney Everest Carnival.

“Horses such as Storm Boy, Joliestar and Celestial Legend take on some very strong fields, making trackside such an important and exciting place to see them up close.’’

Full fields for Saturday’s meeting at Rosehill Gardens are here and full TAB fixed odds for all races here.

The Group 2 $300,000 James Squire Run To The Rose will not only shape futures markets for the James Squire Golden Rose but also the TAB Everest.

Confirmed Everest slot runner Bustling (Mick Price/Michael Kent and jockey Chad Schofield) is at $6 TAB on Saturday while trainer James Cummings is looking for a fourth consecutive win in the race with Traffic Warden (Zac Lloyd) at $7.

The Group 2 $300,000 Irresistible Pools Sheraco Stakes has attracted a cracking field including four Group 1 winners.

Behind Joliestar in betting is another potential TAB Everest runner in Sunshine In Paris for trainers Annabel Neasham and Rob Archibald with Tommy Berry aboard at $3.70-$3.60 TAB.
